Product Details:

Bench grinders are stationary tools with a belt or an abrasive wheel that rotates at high speeds to smoothen or shape a workpiece. They are mounted to a workbench and the operator holds the workpiece with both hands against the spinning wheel / belt to shape or smoothen it. These Dayton bench grinders are compact in design and can be stored easily when not in use.

Dayton bench grinders are equipped with high quality motors for long duty cycles and heavy duty use on carbon metals and alloys. Dayton 2LKR9 bench grinder provides approximately 4 to 7 times longer duty cycles and delivers 8 times lesser speed than most conventional bench grinders. This bench grinder features sealed bearings and dynamically balanced rotors to minimise vibration for smooth running. This grinder provides extended wheel to wheel clearance to allow long items to be grounded easily. It has large, adjustable tools for angular grinding and secured & efficient tilt. Dayton 2LKR9 bench grinder also features spark guards and adjustable safety eye shields that are attached with hurricane bolts for added safety. This Dayton bench grinder comes equipped with ball bearings for low rotational friction and delivers a maximum wheel speed of 3450 rpm.

Uses:

Dayton 2LKR9 bench grinder is used in the engineering, electrical and automobile industries for sharpening cutting tools such as chisels, gouges, tool bits and drill bits. It can also be used for grinding, deburring, chamfering and cleaning applications.

Features:

  • Dayton 2LKR9 bench grinder is equipped with high quality motors for long duty cycles and heavy duty use on carbon metals and alloys.
  • This grinder provides extended wheel to wheel clearance to allow long items to be grounded easily.
  • This grinder has large, adjustable tools for angular grinding and a secured & efficient tilt.
  • Dayton 2LKR9 bench grinder features sealed bearings and dynamically balanced rotors to minimise vibration for smooth running.
  • This bench grinder provides approximately 4 to 7 times longer duty cycles under loading conditions and delivers 8 times lesser speed than conventional bench grinders.
  • This Dayton grinder comes equipped with ball bearings for low rotational friction and delivers a maximum wheel speed of 3450 rpm.
  • Dayton 2LKR9 bench grinder also features spark guards and adjustable safety eye shields that are attached with hurricane bolts for added safety.
  • If you want a higher speed variant, check out Dayton 49H008 bench grinder delivering speeds up to 3500 rpm.

Compatible Accessories:

  • Dayton 4Z154: These grinder stands provide a stable base for bench grinders. They provide added support to the grinders and position them at a suitable height so that the operator can easily stand upright while performing grinding operations.

Standards and Approvals:

Dayton 2LKR9 bench grinder is CSA certified and complies with OSHA / NIOSH standards to deliver efficient performance.

Installation:

  • Dayton 2LKR9 bench grinder includes hex nuts, wood screws and a flat washer for easy and secure installation.
  • Mount the bench grinder to a solid, horizontal surface. If it is mounted to a metal pedestal, align mounting holes with corresponding holes in the pedestal.
  • Insert a 1/4-20 x 1-1/4 inch hex head bolt with a flat washer through the base of the grinder. From the bottom of the pedestal, place a 1/4 inch flat washer and 1/4 inch diameter, 20 thread hex nut onto the bolt.
  • Tighten until the space between the pedestal and grinder base is 1/8 inches. Using a second nut on each bolt, tighten against the first to resist loosening by vibration.
  • To mount the grinder to the wooden bench top, use 1/4 x 1-1/4 inch wooden screws and flat washers beneath heads and tighten screws until the space between the bench top and grinder base is 1/8 inches.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. Why do bench grinders have 2 wheels?

A. Bench grinders come equipped with two wheels that can be used for numerous applications. The first wheel is mainly designed for precise sharpening, while the other wheel is ideal for rough shaping. They can be conveniently swapped out for different wheel configurations as per the user's needs.

Q. Why is an eye shield mounted on a bench grinder?

A. Dayton 2LKR9 bench grinder has an embedded eye shield that protects the eyes of the operator against injuries by bits of metal and flying abrasive particles.

Q. Can I use a bench grinder to sharpen chisels?

A. Yes, you can sharpen your chisels on a bench grinder. Bench grinders enough power and the perfect type of stone for this operation.

Q. Can you use a bench grinder without a guard?

A. Wheel guards deflect sparks & debris away from users, and shield & protect them from grinding wheels & abrasive cutting, which might cause serious damage if they fail or fly off.

Q. Can you use a bench grinder to sharpen knives?

A. Bench grinders can be used to sharpen knives as they have a high speed spinning wheel which can be used for trimming plastic, metallic and wooden materials as well.

Q. How do I choose a grinding wheel?

A. While choosing a grinding wheel, grinding machine horsepower should be considered. Generally, hard grade wheels are used on machines having high horsepower. If horsepower is less than the wheel diameter, a soft grade wheel is recommended, and if horsepower is more than the wheel diameter, then choose a hard grade wheel.
