Features

  • Plast-O-Matic variable area flow indicators are used for measuring the liquid flow rates, through a closed system, at a maximum line pressure of 200 psi.
  • These flow indicators are incorporated with a PVC-constructed screen for quantitative readout of variable area flow.
  • They feature corrosion-resistant thermoplastic connections (PVC or CPVC) and EPDM or FKM elastomers.
  • These Plast-O-Matic flow indicators come with 1/4 or 1/2 Inch FNPT connections.

Working Mechanism

  • These devices rely on the difference between two pressures to function (delta-P).
  • As flow is established through the variable orifice that is created between the spring-biased metering cone and the end cap that the cone rests in, developing delta-P.
  • The cone can move linearly in relation to the delta-P due to the variable orifice. A follower magnet is rotated by a magnet on the metering cone which moves together with the cone in a chamber next to the fluid cavity.
  • To deliver gauge readings proportional to flow, the gauge pointer is positioned at the end of the rotary magnet shaft and spins with the magnet.
  • Between the flow chamber and the rotary chamber, there are no mechanical seals. It is attained by coupling forces between two neighbouring magnets through a solid wall.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a variable area flowmeter operate?

Variable area flowmeters are highly adaptable flow measurement tools that can be used with a variety of liquids, gases, and steam. They work on the basis of the variable area principle, whereby a flowing fluid moves a float, piston or vane in order to provide a larger area for the fluid to travel through.

Why is a rotameter known as a variable area flowmeter?

The variable-area flowmeter is called a rotameter because the float rotates as the flow passes it. The spinning float is an obvious signal that fluid is flowing.

What is a rotameter?

A flow meter that monitors the volumetric flow of liquids and gases is called a rotameter (variable area flow metre).
