Tapered And QD Bushings

Tapered & QD bushings are suitable for power transmission drives for driving sprockets, pulleys & chain couplings. Raptor Supplies is an authorised distributor of Lisle, Gates, TB Wood's, Lovejoy, Power Drive and Vulcan Hart tapered & QD bushings. Selected models feature a precise taper for providing wedging action and a Sure-Grip design for accommodating shafts of various diameters. Choose from a wide variety of these tapered & QD bushings, available in sizes (bore diameters) ranging from 15/16 to 9 inches.

Working Mechanism

Tapered Bushings

  • Tapered bushings have a bore which when tightened with a screw or bolt, helps expand and create a tight interference fit between the shaft and the hub.
  • This interference fit provides a secure connection which can handle high torque and axial loads.

QD Bushings

  • QD bushings consist of a bushing and a flange that fit together into a hub or component.
  • The bushing has a tapered bore that fits over the shaft and the flange is bolted onto the hub or component, compressing the bushing and forcing it to expand radially, thus providing a secure and reliable connection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I install a QD bushing?

  • Inspect QD hubs and bushings for any signs of damage. Remove all nicks, paints and grease from mating surfaces.
  • Position the compatible key in the shaft's keyseat.
  • Slide the bushing onto the shaft and key. Make sure that the small end of the taper is outboard.
  • Slide the tapered hub over the bushing.
  • Align the shaft key with one of the slots in the hub.
  • Similarly, align the drilled holes in the mating hub with the threaded holes in the bushing.
  • Put one cap screw into each drilled hole in the mating hub and the threaded hole.
  • By using a torque wrench, tighten all cap screws uniformly and progressively in rotation.
  • Avoid lubricating or using excessive wrench torques, which may lead to hub stresses that might result in the breaking of the mating hub.

What are the factors to consider while selecting a bushing for my application?

Factors to consider while choosing appropriate bushings for your application include size and type of shaft, the amount of torque and horsepower required and the type of equipment being mounted.
